If what ever you do in life were a business, you would set out a business plan, and when things go slightly off course, you’d go back to those plans to remind yourself of where you were heading for in the first place.
We don’t exactly have a list of things we want to do, but we often find ourselves heading in a directions that takes us away from the things we love doing the most and the reason we started blogging for instance, in the first place. For me, it’s baking and cooking.
Over the past year or so I’ve been concentrating on the Clandestine Cake Club, which I’m very proud to say has over 10k members and 200 clubs, and had very little time for the foody fun side of things. However, that has now all changed.
Last Saturday I went to Glasgow to meet up with Helen Vass a CCC organiser. Read all about that over on the CCC website. I also arranged to meet 2 of my Nephews at the same time and I took them some cake. More fun stuff. I’m told that 24 hours later all the cake had been eaten.
More fun stuff ahead. I liked doing reviews of products that I thought would interest my readers. Below is what I hope is the first of many. But I’ll only review products that I think you will find interesting and worth while. What I won’t do is review something that I have not seen, used or would never use. And of course I will be transparent about it when they are sent to me. Let me know what you think.

Dartington Crystal very kindly sent me this lovely cake plate from their English Country Collection to review. I have a few cake stands and plates in my collection from when I did the Secret Tea Room, but many of them have patterns, pictures and filigree on them. And one thing I learnt from being at a couple of photo shoots for the CCC Cook Book is that in order to show off your cakes to their best potential, you need to use plain white or glass.
This handmade Cake Plate would have been perfect for one of the shoots. A nice, simple contemporary design. What I also like about it is the odd little bubble in the glass that you get with handmade products, makes them unique.

It arrived really well packed and padded and is quite light in weight. My measurements calculated the following, making it suitable for any cake size. But as with all hand made products, there may be a slight difference in actual sizes.
- Height: 10.5cm
- Diameter: 29cm
- Base: 11cm
When not in use, mine will double up as a fruit bowl and will take centre stage on my dining room table.
